Frequently asked questions

What is PVE Guard?

PVE Guard is a native iOS app for monitoring and managing Proxmox VE clusters. It connects directly to the Proxmox API on your server — no cloud services or third-party servers involved.

Does PVE Guard collect any data?

No. All data stays on your device. PVE Guard does not send any data to us or third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Which Proxmox versions are supported?

PVE Guard works with Proxmox VE 7.x and 8.x. It uses the standard Proxmox REST API.

Can I monitor multiple clusters?

Yes. You can add multiple Proxmox servers and switch between them.

Do I need to open ports or set up port forwarding?

No special ports are needed beyond the standard Proxmox web UI port (8006). If you can reach the Proxmox web UI from your iPhone, PVE Guard will work.

Does PVE Guard work with self-signed certificates?

Yes. Proxmox uses self-signed certificates by default. PVE Guard will ask you to trust the certificate on first connection.

Can I start and stop VMs from the app?

Yes, if the API token has sufficient permissions. A read-only token (e.g. PVEAuditor role) can only monitor. For full control, use a token with write permissions.

How do background notifications work?

PVE Guard uses iOS Background App Refresh to periodically check your cluster status. When a node goes offline or a guest changes state, you receive a local notification. With the app open, checks happen every few seconds.
